PRISON LIBRARY SUPPORT NETWORK TRAINING SESSION

Calling all Seattle abolitionists & information nerds! Join a group of local library workers on May 29th from 6:00-8:00pm at @pipsqueak.seattle for our first in-person training for the @prisonlibrarysupportnetwork (PLSN) Reference Letter Project.
PLSN is a NYC-based abolitionist collective that supports incarcerated people all over the country by answering their research questions. Once trained, volunteers are welcome to join our Seattle chapter for twice-monthly letter meetups (or answer letters on your own). Together, we’ll work collaboratively to meet the information needs of incarcerated people.
Since 2021, PLSN coast-to-coast volunteer network has responded to almost 4.000 letters from folks who often have few options to access information.
The goals of this project are to:
*connect incarcerated people with any information resources they determine they need
*establish lines of communication between people inside with limited information access and people outside with access to libraries, information resources, and search tools
*develop methods for sharing information that are not tied to the carceral or colonial state
ACCESSIBILITY: Pipsqueak is on the first level of a building, with no steps into the space or the bathroom. There is one single-stall, gender-neutral, ADA-compliant bathroom.
Masks required.
