TRANS DAY OF VISIBILITY: RALLY & MEGACANVASS

Join Socialist Alternative members, union and non-union workers, and students for a short rally before heading out to different locations around Capitol Hill to set up tables and talk to people about how we can build movements to unite the struggles of working and oppressed people against Trumpism, the right-wing, and the entire capitalist system!

Since his inauguration, Trump has wasted no time in rolling out vicious attacks on queer people, with a particular focus on transgender rights. Sports bans in schools for transgender women and girls, the executive order declaring “two binary sexes,” and the banning of gender-affirming care for youth represent just the beginning.

The right-wing attacks on oppressed groups like trans people and immigrants are an attempt to divide working people, while all of us see worsening conditions and the further stripping of our rights. We need urgently to show that fighting for the rights of transgender people is a key part of the fight for things all working people need, like quality universal healthcare, affordable housing, good union jobs, and an end to imperialist war and the climate crisis.

To build independent movements capable of winning real victories for working and oppressed people, we have to link up our struggles—like those for trans rights, immigrants’ rights, and federal worker protections—and target the system of capitalism that is at the root of inequality and oppression. We cannot rely on establishment forces like the Democratic Party!
